Bringing Local Theatre to Life for The Athenæum Limelight Players
Working with The Athenæum Limelight Players in Warminster is a project close to my heart. As a designer, there is nothing quite like the challenge of capturing the entire mood of a play—the suspense, the drama, or the mystery—within a single image that stops someone in their tracks as they walk past a poster or scroll through their feed.
The Creative Process
For every production, from Frederick Knott’s classic thrillers to modern adaptations, I aim to create a visual identity that feels as professional as the performances on stage. My goal is to ensure the “Limelight Players” brand remains recognisable while giving each individual show a distinct, high-impact look.
What I Deliver
I provide a comprehensive “show kit” for each production to ensure the theatre is packed on opening night:
Atmospheric Key Art: Crafting the central visuals for shows like Wait Until Dark and The Girl on the Train.
Print-Ready Media: Designing A4 posters and A5 flyers that look sharp in the Box Office window.
Digital Engagement: Creating tailored assets for web and social media to make booking tickets seamless for the audience.
Clear Communications: Balancing the artistic side with the essentials, so the information is always clear at a glance.
Blackadder Goes Forth
I recently had the pleasure of collaborating with director AJ to design the promotional materials for The Athenaeum Limelight Players’ production of Blackadder Goes Forth. Adapted for the stage by Paul Carpenter and Ian Gower from the iconic TV series by Richard Curtis and Ben Elton, the play took to the stage at The Athenaeum Centre in Warminster from the 16th to the 18th of July.
My role involved creating striking posters and digital assets that captured the classic humour of the show whilst ensuring all essential booking information—including web addresses and box office details—was clearly communicated. Additionally, the designs proudly highlighted the production’s support for the charity Blesma, The Limbless Veterans, alongside their affiliations with NODA and The Rose Bowl Awards.
“I couldn’t have asked for better than Dutchfox. Nicolette delivered exactly what I needed with prompt replies, great design ideas, fast poster creation, and effortless print ordering, truly putting our production in the spotlight.” – AJ (Director of Blackadder Goes Forth, ALP)
The Girl on the Train
For the adaptation of Paula Hawkins’ bestselling novel, I focused on a design that mirrored the dark, cinematic feel of the story. Working closely with Director Char Case and understanding what she had in mind, really helped in the process.
