Why Your Marketing Specialist is Still Your Secret Weapon (Even with AI!)
Hey fellow marketing peeps and business owners!
We’re living in an exciting time where AI is changing everything, and marketing is no exception. We’re seeing AI tools help with everything from writing content to making ads better, and it’s natural to wonder: does this mean the marketing specialist is out of a job?
From where I stand (and I know many of you feel the same!), the answer is a big fat NO.
While AI is super powerful, it’s just that – a tool. It’s the skilled hand of the marketing specialist that uses it well and, more importantly, brings the important human touch that AI can’t replace.
Think of it this way: AI can look at lots of data and find patterns and guess what might happen next. It can automate boring tasks like scheduling social media posts or personalising email subject lines. It can even write some of the content itself. These are all great ways to save time.
But what AI can’t do is:
- Come Up with a Big Picture Plan: AI works based on rules and what’s happened in the past. It can’t understand your unique business goals, guess what might happen in the future based on a feeling, or come up with a truly innovative, long-term marketing plan. That’s where our smart thinking comes in.
- Make Things Creative and Unique: Marketing isn’t just about numbers; it’s about telling stories and connecting with your audience. AI can write text, but can it capture the special voice and personality of your brand in a way that really touches your customers on a deep level? Not yet, and maybe never. That’s our creative superpower.
- Marketing is all about understanding people and their cultures. What works for one person might not work for another. Human marketers have the skills to figure out these differences and make campaigns that work for everyone. AI can’t do that.
- Marketing is also about building relationships with people. AI can make people feel like they know you, but it can’t really get to know you. It can’t build trust or handle tricky customer situations like a human marketer can.
- Finally, marketing is about being ethical. AI doesn’t have a moral compass, so it’s up to us to make sure that our marketing is honest and transparent. We also need to make sure that our marketing doesn’t hurt anyone or discriminate against anyone.
AI is a great tool, and I’m excited about how it can help us marketers do our jobs better. But it’s the human touch that really makes a difference.
That’s why business owners still need experienced marketing specialists (like you and me) to make sure that their marketing is effective and meaningful.
